Recap of the 2017 SMCo Thrift National Training Conference

Two weeks ago, we wrapped up the 2017 SMCo Thrift National Training Conference. Based on the feedback, it was more than could have been hoped for.

First off, the conference was excellent. Worth every minute of my time.

The content and presenters were top notch and engaging.

Great conference. Attendees were very open and willing to share their experiences which makes for meaningful interactions.

Best event to discuss the actual “how to’s” of leading a thrift operation.

Venues

The venues were a big part of the event. The Jackson Terminal provided a unique environment in the Old City of Knoxville. Three KARM Stores locations were used as part of the workshops to showcase the “how to’s” in specific areas.

Workshops

Speaking of workshops, for the first time, this event included breakout sessions in addition to the general sessions. These interactive times proved to be a big hit, consistently ranking as one of the most valuable parts of the experience for an attendee. You can expect more “hands on” experiences to better prepare you and your teams to Do Thrift Better in future conferences.

Collecting and Using Metrics

The most often mentioned takeaway from the event was a greater understanding of metrics in thrift operations. We know you can’t manage what you don’t measure. Throughout the conference, the SMCo Thrift team showed ways to collect critical information and then use it to make informed decisions.

Next Time

Before the event concluded, the next SMCo Thrift National Training Conference was announced for April 18th to 20th, 2018. So, mark your calendars and make plans to bring your team to Knoxville for this special time.
